A dirty chimney can cause a furnace to backfire, sending soot through the house, damaging walls, carpeting and most importantly, the health of those living in the home.

“If you don't clean the chimney, it can block up and cause a misfiring of the heater that can cause soot to be blown out through the ductwork,” explained Anne Sawicki, co-owner of the corporation.

Pickwick and Poppins recommends regular cleaning of the chimney and ductwork.  When there is a soot problem, homeowners may notice dark spots on their walls and ceiling above the air vents. The furnace and chimney needs to be checked to find out the cause of the backfiring.  Then the ductwork needs to be cleaned and the rest of the house needs a professional cleaning of walls, ceilings, carpeting and window coverings to remove this carcinogenic material.

It's an involved process that may be covered by your homeowner's insurance. Pickwick and Poppins owner Joseph P. Sawicki  works with a public adjuster who knows the ins and outs of homeowner insurance and will help you receive compensation from your insurance company to cover the cost of repairs and cleaning.
